Patience Boni has dedicated over 25 years to the Ghana health sector, contributing significantly in various roles. She began her journey as a clinical nurse and midwife, later transitioning into roles as a public health practitioner and nurse manager. Throughout her extensive career, she focused on critical areas such as sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health, family planning, and safe abortion.
In her current position as Program Associate II at AYA Collective, Patience plays a vital role in the implementation of the Comprehensive Abortion Care Institutionalization program in Ghana. Her responsibilities include providing technical assistance to the Health Service, strategic planning, program development, fundraising, and collaboration with international partners, donors, and local institutions. She actively contributes to strengthening reproductive health, family planning, and comprehensive abortion care programming and policy development. Patience also engages in evaluating projects, disseminating scientific information, and ensuring the proper provision of safe abortion services in Ghana.
Prior to her role at AYA Collective, Patience served as the Senior Programs Officer at Willows International Ghana, a key member of the Ghana Reducing Maternal Mortality and Morbidity (R3M) Program. In this capacity, she facilitated behavioral change initiatives empowering women through family planning and safe abortion. Her advocacy efforts with the Ghana Health Service led to improved access to quality reproductive health services. Additionally, Patience worked with Ipas as a Health Systems Associate, where she contributed to the establishment and supervision of safe abortion service programs in various facilities.
Patience's diverse experience also includes serving as Deputy Director for Nursing Services and Nurse Midwife within the Ghana Health Service system. In these roles, she supervised district reproductive health programs, successfully implemented the R3M Program interventions, coordinated TB/HIV programs, and participated in communicable disease surveillance initiatives, including contact tracing.
Educationally, Patience holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Psychology, as well as a master's degree in Public Health, both from the University of Ghana, Legon. Her wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience continues to positively impact Ghana's healthcare landscape.
